INTRODUCTION

This department was established in 2003 and started its activities in 2010-2011 academic year. As the department of Art History, a four-year undergraduate program is applied in our department as normal education and second education. In our department education and training activities are carried out with 1 Associate Professor Doctor, 3 Assistant Professor Doctor, 2 instructor and 4 research asssistant.

 

MISSION

In our country which has a young population, it is among our national targets to ensure that as many people as possible receive university education. In this context, it is clear that History of Art education which has an important place in Social Sciences should be more widespread. Considering the geography we live in has witnessed many civilizations and carries many signs from them, this requirement makes itself feel more clearly.

In addition to this general table; the region including Tokat, Amasya, Samsun, Çorum, and Gümüşhane also called as Kelkit Valley or Yeşilırmak Basin is a rich place in terms of movable-immovable concrete cultural heritage. Providing such a department in the related region where there is not a department of art history is a proper choice fort his territory.

Our Aim As A Department;

  • To make scientific research and publish to be able to conserve and promote the extremely rich historical and cultural heritage which takes places in basin and especially in Tokat.

  • To provide the required training for experts who need to be experienced, independent and scientifically competent for research activities in the field of social sciences at universities and research centers.

  • To ensure the increase of academic participation and quality by establishing positive communication with the students to be trained within the framework of the principles stated by the Yüksek Öğretim Kurulu (YÖK) and with other students both in faculties and universities.

  • To facilitate receiving project support from national and international project support service, in addition to research fund of our university.

  • In addition to the identification and registration of our cultural heritage, to contribute to the dissemination of conservation awareness in the society.

Graduate students can pursue academic careers by completing postgraduate and doctorate programs; work as art historian in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of foundations, KUDEP; work in archives, restoration companies, private museums, and participate in excavations.
